Science-Based Exercise Methodology:
Intelligent Exercise!

FitLAB Pilates strives to bring science-based Pilates exercise methodology to our clients. Our instructors take current knowledge from biomechanics and spinal rehab and apply it to the foundation created by Joseph and Clara Pilates in the early 20th century. Pilates uses focused exercises to help correct muscular imbalances in the body and strengthen the core. You will learn to move with more ease, reducing unnecessary tension.

Pilates is an education in the finer workings of the body. That knowledge will help you improve your posture and move through life with more confidence. You can take your Pilates knowledge and apply it to any sport, or just bring new body awareness to the movements of your daily life. Commit to at least two sessions a week at FitLAB Pilates, and you’ll see real changes in the way your body looks and feels within just a few weeks.  At FitLAB you may not leave the studio covered in sweat, but you'll leave with a better idea of how to get the most out of your workouts.

 Our Goals

- Offer clients fun workouts, with lots of variety
- Provide attentive, high-quality instruction
- Give clients an education about the body that they can carry with them throughout life!

Our Story

FitLAB Pilates was founded in 2009 by STOTT Pilates Certified Instructor Sarah Carr and her client, Dr. Pai-Ling Yin. In June of 2017, Diane Roseman, a longtime client of FitLAB, purchased the studio in order to continue the journey Sarah had begun and worked to grow FitLAB to what it is today. In June of 2022, Diane decided it was time to move on and sold the studio to STOTT Pilates Certified Instructor and dedicated Fitlab employee of 8 years, Kate Johnson, along with her husband Chris Johnson.

From the beginning, Sarah's vision was to ignore fitness fads and give people what their bodies really needed, all while staying current with our evolving understanding of exercise physiology and biomechanics.  Kate and Chris are excited to continue Sarah's path for the studio, supporting the quality instructors and welcoming environment of FitLAB.  Please reach out to Kate at Kate@fitlabpilates.com with any questions or concerns.

FitLAB Pilates is an open, non-competitive environment. We welcome clients of every shape, size, and ability level. No matter what your starting point, we look forward to helping you Get Stronger, Stand Taller, Feel Better!

Meet Our Team!

Kate

Kate grew up in New York just outside of New York City. As a child and teenager she was always very active, beginning her interest in exercise early on with martial arts, running, and weight lifting.

After graduating from Mass Art in 2005 with a BFA in painting, she revisited her interest in movement by going back to school at the American Academy of Personal Training. From there, she started off her career as a personal trainer at Healthworks. She became interested in teaching Pilates after working with a population of clients with a wide variety of injuries. She discovered that working with the Pilates equipment helped to rehab aches and pains while continuing to maintain a challenging full body workout. After completing her STOTT certification, she began teaching full time at Fitlab Pilates in 2014.

Kate is a comprehensively certified STOTT pilates instructor, NASM/AAPT certified personal trainer, certified pre/post natal corrective exercise coach, 200 hour certified yoga teacher (Down Under School of Yoga), certified kettlebell instructor (Kettlebell Concepts), TRX trained, NASM certified corrective exercise specialist, Precision Nutrition coach, and NASM certified weight loss specialist.

In her free time, Kate enjoys baking, watching scary movies, cycling, and spending time with her dog Olive.

Cilla

As a child, Cilla took many types of dance classes and was a competitive equestrian. She has always been passionate about movement-- it is a part of who she is. In the mid 90’s Cilla started taking yoga and improv dance classes in Western Massachusetts. In 2001 she met Ann Marie,a Stott certified Pilates instructor and owner of Rock City Body, a studio that offered yoga and Pilates. Ann Marie encouraged Cilla to become a certified yoga instructor. During this time she was introduced to Pilates and suddenly something clicked! This was the workout she had always been looking for!

Now fully STOTT certified, she teaches classes for beginners to seasoned Pilates fanatics. She has trained a wide range of people from marathoners, people with injuries, and people of all levels of fitness. She has been blessed with the opportunity to work side by side with physical therapists.
This has given her the knowledge and experience to modify exercises so that patients/clients do not get re-injured. With an eye for detail, easy to understand cues and her own twist on the method she was taught, everyone is promised a good workout! When Cilla is not teaching she can be found following her favorite band around the country.

Angie

Designing classes that are interesting, challenging, and safe is Angie’s main
goal. In her early 20’s, classical mat Pilates was part of her daily routine and she became more aware of the importance of healthy living. Later on she was introduced to STOTT PILATES and studied to become an instructor in Mat and Reformer. STOTT PILATES highlights the importance of breathing for proper stabilization in each exercise. She strives to teach a mix of Mat and Reformer for all levels in both group and private sessions.

After receiving a BFA in Painting, Angie was introduced to jade and opened a jewelry business. She is passionate about gemology, metalwork, figurative art, and adopting pets from the local shelter.
